Team SD Worx with all leaders to start in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

"We want to be right up there in the opening classic"

23/02/2023

Team SD Worx enters the start of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad with their leaders Demi Vollering, Lorena Wiebes, Marlen Reusser and Lotte Kopecky. With also Elena Cecchini and Christine Majerus, Team SD Worx starts the classic period with a rock-solid line-up. "We have several assets, which gives us a lot of opportunities. We hope to eliminate the zero in classic victories as soon as possible this season," said team manager Lars Boom.

Team SD Worx will start more often this season with the quartet of Vollering, Kopecky, Wiebes and Reusser in the bigger races. Lars Boom: "They don't get in each other's way, but make each other stronger. They give each other peace of mind because they can spread the weight of the team over each other's shoulders."

"The arrival of Lorena Wiebes can bring peace of mind for many riders because they know they have a sprint star behind them. It is an extra weapon we can add to our arsenal. Demi Vollering, Marlen Reusser and Lotte Kopecky can race more freely and Lorena Wiebes in turn can benefit from their presence in a wait-and-see position. So there are several ways for us to win a race. At the same time, it is an important step in her career for Wiebes to become stronger this way too."

We don't need to beat around the bush. The Omloop is a goal for us.

With Demi Vollering (second) and Lorena Wiebes (third), two riders from last year's top three will ride for Team SD Worx in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Boom: "We don't have to beat around the bush. The Omloop is a goal for us. In the past two years, we competed for the win with Anna van der Breggen (1st in 2021) and Demi Vollering (2nd in 2022). We started the 2023 season well in the UAE Tour with stage wins, but we also want to clear the classic zero as soon as possible. Last year, Demi was already close and Lotte Kopecky will no doubt also want to win the opening classic in her own country."

"The fact that the competition already has the Tour of Valencia in its legs doesn't matter," Boom continued. "It was a conscious decision not to ride that one. When I analyse the training sessions, the intensity is really there. We don't have to worry about that. The UAE showed that our team is fine. We are really looking forward to Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. That first time in Flanders remains special every season. So we want to be there right away."
