Demi Vollering also adds overall victory in Tour de Romandie to palmares

"Special to win classification in Switzerland"

2023 was an extremely successful season for Demi Vollering. With final victory in Tour de Romandie, the reigning Dutch champion adds another prestigious race to her impressive list in 2023. That includes, among others, Strade Bianche and the Ardennes tripple, as well as overall victory in the Vuelta a Burgos and, of course, the Tour de France Femmes. Next week the time trial and road race at the European Championships in the Netherlands still await. "The last stage of Tour de Romandie was a real battle. It was difficult to keep everything under control, but I am proud to add the this beautiful race to my palmares."

The second version of Tour De Romandie comes in the name of Demi Vollering. Like last year with Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, Team SD Worx managed to win the final classification of the Swiss WorldTour stage race. "With my stage win on Saturday, half the work was done, but I knew we still had a very tricky final day ahead of us," Demi Vollering enthuses. "We had created the ideal scenario because we had three riders in the breakaway at the beginning. This allowed us to take a wait-and-see approach and save strength for the finale. This was a stage where many riders could do well. So we had to keep an eye on a lot of girls. It was important to stay alert, yet it was not always easy to decide which attack we reacted to and which we did not. But the team did an excellent job. I am tired but satisfied as we successfully defended the yellow jersey."

The overall victory in the Tour de Romandie marks the third WorldTour stage race Vollering has won this season, following earlier Vuelta a Burgos and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. Marlen Reusser signed for third place overall. "It is always special to win an overall classification," said Vollering. "This win is also close to my heart because it is in Switzerland, where I live these days. I am proud to add such a great race to my palmares." With which, at Tour de Romandie, Team SD Worx will end its WorldTour campaign just as it started it in 2022 at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad: with a victory.
