The third stage of Vuelta a Burgos to Aranda de Duero was announced in advance as a sprint stage. An early breakaway held on for a long time, but after a kilometre-long chase by Team SD Worx, Lorena Wiebes was still able to play up her speed. The European champion had to start her final sprint from afar and impressively held out until the finish line. So a phenomenal win for Lorena Wiebes and Team SD Worx. "It was very exciting, but the team was ironclad again today," Wiebes said.

The third stage of Vuelta a Burgos turned out to be a nail-biter. At 10 kilometres from the end, the leading group still had a minute's lead. Team SD Worx fought at the head of the peloton, putting the breakaway riders in sight in the final kilometres . Yet with 800 metres to go, the breakaway riders still had an 11-second lead. "The team worked really hard today. When we entered the last kilometre, I still thought the breakaway would make it. I was in Demi Vollering's wheel," Wiebes looked back.

The WorldTour leader then pulled the sprint ahead of her teammate Wiebes, who still managed to outpace the leading group. "On the last straight the breakaway riders slowed down. Demi went full gass at that moment and then I started my sprint. With that, the breakaway group was a good focus point to keep sprinting," the 24-year-old sprint star said.

Team SD Worx's dominance is supported by the fact that Wiebes already took his 24th win of the season. It is also the ninth win in a row for the Dutch WorldTeam. Wiebes: "We worked all winter for this. I was also extra motivated to win because of my declassification yesterday. Tomorrow we want to finish the job and I will go all-in for Demi. It's time to thank her for all the work over the past few days."
