Sporting director Danny Stam calls Lonneke Uneken the biggest talent in Dutch women's cycling: “She is only 21 years old, but in 2021 she immediately showed her ability to keep up with the best riders on the team in the two spring races in February. She contributed to an interesting finish at both Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and GP Samyn. After the coronavirus lockdown, she finished second at the Under 23 European Championship. I think Lonneke may just become the 'new' Chantal Blaak. She has the same qualities and is also highly driven. She is a rider who, despite her young age, really knows what she wants.”

Uneken is happy with the confidence Team SD Worx has in her. “Ever since the first training camp I've felt right at home in this team,” she says. “My three victories last season have left me wanting more. I've learned a lot about myself. I am very driven to keep doing better and better, but sometimes I also need to take a step back. If I can strike that balance even better, I will become a better rider. My secret weapon is my sprinting capabilities at the end of a difficult race.”

As part of Team SD Worx, the Dutch rider hopes to make it to the top. Uneken: “We race to win here. It's in our DNA. But at the same time, we always try and have fun. I am happy here. My first major goal is the 2024 Olympics in Paris. It gives me peace of mind to know that I can work towards it in this familiar environment. It is also a huge advantage that Anna van der Breggen and Chantal Blaak are remaining active in the team leadership and coaching after their careers. It is very special to have such great champions as mentors.”
